I’m SariAnne Miller, and I write for middle grade readers and young adults.
I’ve been a writer all my life, but didn’t share it with anyone but friends. I recently decided to begin submitting my work for publication so more people could enjoy it.
I’m also an elementary school teacher, and one of my favorite subjects to teach is…yes, you guessed it. Writing. Math, too. I like to make sense of the world, and writing and math both do that. The highest compliment is when my students tell me that I make it fun. Fun is important. You can read more about that on my blog, TeacherWriter. My classroom website has some fun websites for kids.
I have a Master’s Degree in Education. I spend my days writing tests and non-fiction articles for my students. In the very wee hours of the morning, I write the stories that dance around in my head until I free them. The first novel I finished is:
Gold Rush Girl
(currently with my agent)
Lucinda York, recently orphaned, travels with a wagon train to California where she finds herself smack dab in the middle of the 1849 gold rush. She has to learn how to make her own way in the world at a time where women were only considered capable of caring for their families. She has higher hopes and dreams, but only she can make them come true.
My current work in progress is:
It’s Not What You Think
Cal Dutton moves into a new neighborhood after his mom dies. He’s expecting a fresh start, but he soon finds out that you can’t leave your problems behind. It doesn’t help matters that the old man who lives on the other side of the empty lot may be a murderer. Will Cal be able to keep his integrity and his head, too?
When I’m not writing, I enjoy knitting, crochet, swimming, outdoor activities, and cooking. I love to cook. In fact, I hear my kitchen calling me now. I’m off to bake a batch of chocolate chunk cookies.
